another movie review

not that anyone's keeping count...

With the ABUNDANCE of time on my hands.......i decided to catch up on my movie-watching.

i finally watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which in my opinion kicked ass.
the only thing that sucked was how short it was, and how the director had to squeeze the whole chunk of a book into 2 and 1/2 hours.

i also managed to catch Rush Hour 3.

still Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan

JACKIE CHAN and CHRIS TUCKER return as Inpector Lee and Detective Carter, who team up this time to solve the mystery of the elusive Shy Shen. The movie is filmed on location at Paris, where most of the action takes place.

There is the usual loud-mouth, 4words/second blaring from Tucker, and usual struggling stumble with words from Lee. However, the same cliched cop-buddies comedy stil works for them.
Although lacking the impressive chemistry and magic from the previous 2 movies, Rush Hour 3 still brings some good laughs and standard action-movie fight scenes. The shots of Paris also satisfy, and overall resulted in a pleasant movie.

So it may not be a movie that blows your mind, bowls you over, keep you on the edge of your seat, or have an invented elvish language;
it may not make you howl in tears, tug at your heartstrings, slap a storyline twist in your face, have enchanted spells, or kill of the main character's Godfather;
it may not have award-winning music, green midget alien sensei-masters who talk backwards, or have swords made of light;
but Rush Hour 3 is definitely a PERFECT Forget-your-day and just-watch-a-nice-show-and-laugh-at-the-stupid-stuff-happening-to-them movie.

We need that sometimes, don't we?

Pissy-Fair
be wary, the inner geek emerges....

Malaysia's PC Fairs have ALWAYS been known for:

1. crazy lelong, fairly low prices
2. pretty promoters hired just to attract customers
3. pocket-burning, wallet-ripping hardware that make geeks cheer and groan at the same time
4. salespeople shouting that they have the final, really really last 2 units left, when they have about 20 more right behind them.
5. the very latest tech (mountains of 8800GTX!)

but the most obvious and well-known part about the PC Fair has always been
THE CROWD.

THE maddening, shoulder-to-shoulder, wat-the-hell-don't-suddenly-stop-in-front-of-me, whoa-check-out-that-samsung-girl, oh-my-god-i-can't-breathe CROWD.

a stretch of pathway in Johor Bahru City Square that would've normally taken 2 minutes to walk across now cost me 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour..!

But i didn't mind.

the PC Fair was friggin AWESOME.
The geek in me wanted to just twirl around the center and fling my arms around like Maria in the Sound of Music.

i didn't.

There were shops selling all the latest electronics and computer hardware.. headphones, speakers, widescreen monitors, computer peripherals; there was sound and color everywhere, and people were just going mad bargaining and squeezing past each other.

I went there with my parents (duh.. i'm smart..) on the evening of the last day (..not that smart.)
I think everyone was really caught up in the hype, what with all the yelling and scribbled fluorescent A4 price sheets that looked like this:

definition: a party where ppl bring their own PCs, show off their modifications, and game with each other.

YOUTH AFLAME* had a LAN Party on Saturday.

it was quite hectic for the youth comittee to organize, but overall i felt it was quite a success.
quite a crowd turned up, and 5 full teams registered for DOTA and CONDITION ZERO matches.

there was gaming, food, crowd, movies.

moviereview

i know its gay and promoting witchcraft is SO wrong, but i really want to watch the Order of the Phoenix in cinemas.
everyone even told me the movie sucked, and
"just read the book, justin."
but there's something about actually watching the people come to life on screen that thrilleth me.

Oh well.

i watched DIE HARD 4.0 instead that day, since the cinema times were not in my favor.

man, Bruce Willis is old.

you'd THINK they'd be able to kill him now that he's what, 60?

The story-line is actually fairly decent.
The bad-guy, Thomas Gabriel, (which in this movie is the actor from the movie 'The Girl Next Door') is a computer expert and hires a team of really powerful hackers to completely infiltrate all of the United States Systems. Banks, Social Security, Electricity, Traffic, Stock Markets, et cetera et cetera.

Justin Long co-starred as Matt Farrell, the computer hacker whom is the target of assassination. Bruce Willis returns as John McClane, the NYPD senior officer (i stress senior) who was just, i quote, "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Justin Long provided some comic relief.

Maggie Q (who looks awesome in this movie) starred as the 'female villain', and Mary Elizabeth Winstead played Lucy McClane - John McClane's daughter.

Matt Farrell: You know, you probably shouldn't antagonise them, seeing as they have these loaded guns..
Lucy McClane: Why don't you try to dig a little deeper and find a bigger set of balls, because you're going to need them before we're through.

Matt: I'm just not used to hearing it from someone with... hair.

There was alot of action. People say they were quite extreme and unrealistic.
i say shut up and watch the movie.
I sometimes like unrealistic, crazy action scenes coupled with funny lame comebacks. I like Bruce Willis movies.
some movies can be enjoyed illogically, and not everything in a movie has to make perfect sense for it to be enjoyable.

i HAVE to say it.
you KNOW i have to use the stupid pun now.

the end of an era

my college life is over!

well, ALMOST over.

i still have to do my final-year project, but i'll be doing it in the comforts of my home here in JB.

ishh..
i'm really gonna miss college life.

i was so sad lor that when i was staring at my empty HF212 apartment after i'd packed.
my 'home' for more than 3 years...
wat a place.
SO many memories.

a whole bunch of those memories from my first day up till my last suddenly flooded through my head.
and as i locked the door for the final time, i brushed some dust off it and smiled to myself.

sighh

emo post another time, k?
i wana enjoy the fast internet browsing.

the final final

whoa.
spending 5 hours in the library for three days straight is no joke.

its my FINAL final tomorrow.
The last final exam paper in my Bachelor's of Science in Computing.

it's a paper called 'Information Systems Design and Implementation'.

yawnnn right?

the internet connection here has been having irritating mood-swings for the whole past week, so i'll be brief and just get this post up before the connection is interrupted again.

all you people reading this - strangers from different lands and walks of life!

i don't mind the Potter books, really. I went and bought the first three.
Right now, I'm still reading the Goblet of Fire, so from 21/07 it officially meant that i was three books behind.

and bloody big-mouthed people are causing misery to those who haven't read the FINAL Potter book yet, blurting out and revealing the trademark twists that SO define this cult of a book.
